Do you feel like the world wasn’t designed for you?
Dear Friends,
Do you feel like the world wasn’t designed for you? Are you tired of fighting for basic rights and support? For too long, disabled people have been left behind by a system that ignores us. From inaccessible workplaces to the lack of services, it often feels like no one cares about our rights. But what if we could change that? What if you could take control of your life with the support of a powerful community that understands your struggles?
In a world that often overlooks the needs of individuals with disabilities, it is crucial that we come together to advocate for equal rights and opportunities. This letter serves as a heartfelt reminder of the power of unity and the impact we can make when we stand together for inclusion.
Disability rights are human rights, and our collective efforts can break down barriers, ensuring that everyone has the chance to thrive. Let us work hand in hand to build a future where diversity is celebrated and accessibility is a given, not an afterthought.

Founder
I’m George, I’m 34 years old, live near Southampton and have Congenital Muscular Dystrophy. I’m passionate about making the world a more inclusive place for disabled people and doing whatever I can to increase the opportunities available to people like us. Outside of work, I love music and video games and am involved in local politics. Like many people, however, I’m most happy sitting around with a bunch of friends, talking nonsense and drinking JD and Coke.
Why I Started The Disability Union:
Hi, I’m George Baker, founder of The Disability Union. I’ve experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate a world that wasn’t built with disabled people in mind. Like many of you, I’ve felt ignored, powerless, and frustrated by the lack of support available. After years of fighting the system alone, I knew something had to change. That’s why I created The Disability Union—to give disabled individuals a voice, a community, and the tools to fight for their rights. Our mission is simple: to empower disabled people to take back control and make sure their voices are heard.
The Disability Union was founded on the belief that every person deserves a voice and the opportunity to live a fulfilling life. Our mission is to fight for disability rights and inclusion, ensuring that no one is left behind. Through our collective efforts, we strive to create a society where accessibility is standard, and everyone is empowered to reach their full potential.
We believe that disabled people deserve more than just sympathy. We deserve power.
That’s why The Disability Union exists—to provide disabled people with the tools, support, and skills to demand their rights and create real change. When you join us, you’re not just becoming a member—you’re joining a movement to reshape the world around you. You’ll gain access to programs and resources that help you build skills, influence policy, and become a leader in your community.

From day one the support team were fantastic in helping with my application… Going through the mandatory reconsideration process and then the tribunal hearing. After 2 years, I finally was awarded the enhanced PIP rate. Thank you so much DU and especially Karla, Lauren and Fi for everything you have done for me. I couldn’t have gotten my PIP without you.”
“I needed my CV updating but had neither money, energy or focus at the moment to get it done but Lauren had it sorted for me in no time at all and did a great job, checking in with me along the way. These things are so important, practical help delivered competently, promptly and with kindness.”
