OUR Diversity & Inclusion policy
The DISABILITY union

We stand for radical diversity and inclusion…

whoever you are, you are welcome here.

At The Disability Union we are uncompromising when it comes to diversity and inclusion. We believe wholeheartedly in two core principles:

  • None of us are free until we are all free
  • Nothing about us, without us

OUR VALUES

We stand in solidarity with every person on the planet who is marginalised for some part of who they are. We recognise that our individual battles for inclusion in society are actually part of a shared struggle for equality for everyone. Whether you are marginalised for the colour of your skin, sexuality, gender identity, religion, disability or something else entirely we stand by your side in support.

We also recognise that all policies, initiatives, ideas or anything else that affects a social group should be made ONLY with their specific involvement and agreement – there must be nothing about us, without us.

What we do NOT tolerate

No bigotry. It’s that simple.

If you harbour hatred or dislike for a group of people based purely on who they are then you probably cannot work with The Disability Union. You are entitled to any belief you hold about anything, but if you engage in any behaviour that discriminates against someone because of a characteristic of who they are we will NOT work with you. To be completely clear:

  • BAME rights are human rights
  • LGBTQI+ rights are human rights
  • Trans rights are human rights
  • Religious freedom is a human right
  • Disability rights are human rights
  • Inclusion is a human right
  • Discrimination based on age, gender, ethnicity, class, disability, hair colour or any other personal characteristic is IMMORAL

disclosing personal characteristics to The Disability Union

We want you to feel accepted, included and cared for here. We’re all part of a team with a shared goal and we’ll only get there if we look after each other. You should do whatever makes you most comfortable and we will support you in whatever decision you make about what and how you tell us.

Here’s what’s important: we will do whatever makes YOU comfortable and we will actively advocate FOR you if you are discriminated against.
